Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE GEORGIAN ERA:
Single-board mahogany top: cut from dense timber available in the eighteenth century.
Birdcage tilt mechanism: allows the table top to rotate and tip upright.
Early brass catch on the underside: hand-filed fitting secured with slotted screws.
Cabriole legs finishing in pad feet: cabinet maker's shaping on the tripod base.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This Georgian occasional table is constructed from solid mahogany with a warm brown colour and a circular top. The design incorporates a turned pedestal stem and three cabriole legs terminating in pad feet. Visible details include a one-piece top with prominent figuring, subtle surface marks on the timber, and a small repair block beneath one foot. The table measures 75 cm high, 97 cm wide, and 97 cm deep. Positioned in an English Country House interior, this piece serves as a practical occasional surface suitable for placement at the end of a sofa. The substantial tripod base provides steady support while the compact footprint suits smaller reception spaces or reading corners. Regular maintenance involves simple dusting and occasional waxing to preserve the timber finish.

First popularised during the early eighteenth century in Britain, the tripod table was created as a lightweight, movable stand for tea service, reading, or candles. Its three-legged base ensured stability on uneven floorboards common in period homes.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised solid timbers such as mahogany, walnut, and oak. Construction typically featured hand-turned central columns, dovetail-jointed block attachments, and pad or claw feet.

Authentic Georgian examples usually display hand-planed underside surfaces, original iron or wooden tilt-top latches, irregular turned profiles on the column, and natural wear patterns along the legs and feet.

Positioning a tripod table alongside an armchair or sofa creates a functional reading nook. It can also function as a dedicated plant stand or occasional drinks table in minimalist or traditional living areas.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct sunlight and radiator heat sources to prevent timber cracking or fading. Regular dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and occasional application of natural beeswax will maintain the wax finish.
