Why Sellingantiques dated this piece to THE 19TH CENTURY:
Pierced undercut foliage and mythical beasts: skilled 19th-century Anglo-Indian workshop carving.
Hand-dressed flat back rails: Victorian cabinet making intended for wall placement.
Dark oxidised colour in carved crevices: natural accumulation of age and wax.
Subtle shrinkage across the rear joints: movement in solid dense timber.

This is an independent date report produced by Sellingantiques using its own proprietary system. The process uses the photographs shown on this page. The system is never told the date the dealer has declared. This report shows that the two dates corroborate.

This pair of 19th-century Anglo-Indian console tables is made from dark brown carved hardwood, teak and rosewood with a polished timber top. Each table features an openwork carved gallery back incorporating foliage, mythical creatures and a central figure, above a shaped apron decorated with further foliage and mythical beasts. Four heavily scrolled cabriole legs display animal masks at the top and a single mythical figure sitting at the base, joined by a shaped and carved stretcher. Each table measures 99 cm high, 130 cm wide, and 59 cm deep. These console tables suit a gentleman's library or placement beside the front door, offering practical surface space for lamps, books or decorative items. The heavy ornamentation, deep brown timber colour and intricate openwork detailing create a strong visual presence suited to traditional interiors.

Anglo-Indian furniture synthesises traditional European furniture forms, such as Victorian or Regency silhouettes, with intricate Indian craftsmanship and indigenous native hardwoods.

These pieces were traditionally crafted from dense native hardwoods like rosewood, padauk, or teak, featuring extensive hand-carving, pierced aprons, and figurative motifs.

Authentic examples exhibit hand-carved tool marks, deep openwork fretwork featuring regional flora and fauna, dense timber grain profiles, and period joinery without modern mechanical fasteners.

Positioning a pair symmetrically in an entryway or framing a doorway adds architectural structure, balancing modern minimalism with rich textural interest.

Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, use a fine soft-bristled brush to gently clean intricate carved crevices, and apply beeswax sparingly to protect the timber finish.
