Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian picture frame originates from circa 1850. The piece takes an oval easel style form, rendered in silver plate with a bright metallic silver finish. The frame features a hinged support stand on the reverse, tiny ball feet at the base, and clear paste stones inset around the entire oval border, capped at the top with a decorative ribbon bow motif. The outer edge shows a textured beaded or granulated moulding and minor surface tarnishing consistent with age. The frame measures 14 cm in height and 9 cm in width, with a photograph aperture measuring 9 cm by 7 cm. Today, the object serves as a decorative accessory for displaying a photograph on a mantelpiece, dressing table, or side cabinet in a traditional or period interior setting.

FAQs

Mid-19th-century easel frames became popular during the Victorian era as commercial photography allowed personal portraits to be displayed on tables, sideboards, and desks rather than hung exclusively on walls.

Victorian decorative frames were frequently crafted from silver plate, brass, or gilt metal, often embellished with cut glass, paste stones, or enamel details around the border.

Authentic 19th-century pieces typically feature hand-fitted easel supports, soldered joinery, age-related oxidisation or wear revealing the underlying metal, and period decorative motifs such as ribbons or garlands.

Display the frame on a mantelpiece, bedside table, or bookshelf alongside modern ceramics and books to create a layered, textured vignette.

Gently dust the frame with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and spot-clean using a slightly damp cotton swab, avoiding harsh silver polishes that could strip thin plating or damage paste stone settings.
