This antique copper bucket dates from the Victorian period and exemplifies a rustic farmhouse style. The piece presents a warm copper colour with a polished finish and displays significant character through heavy copper rivets along the upper rim band, a riveted central band, a curved metal swing handle, and visible dinks and dents around the rim that evidence its age and use. Measuring 30 cm high and 33 cm wide, it offers a practical storage capacity for domestic settings. In a modern interior, this versatile bucket functions ideally beside a fireplace hearth as a coal or kindling bin. Its durable construction ensures it remains strong and sturdy for daily tasks, while the rich patina adds visual warmth to a room. The cylindrical body sits firmly on a flat surface, making it suitable for functional display in living spaces or hearth areas.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, heavy copper buckets were manufactured primarily for domestic and industrial utility, including fetching water, storing coal, or holding logs beside open fires.

These vessels were formed from heavy-gauge sheet copper joined along vertical and horizontal seams using hand-driven rivets to form a durable, watertight structure capable of bearing heavy loads.

Authentic period examples demonstrate thick metal construction, hand-formed copper or iron rivets with slight irregularities, visible lap joints, and a rich, multi-layered patina with areas of natural oxidisation.

A copper bucket can be placed on a fireplace hearth as log storage, positioned in an entryway as an umbrella stand, or used in a reception room as a planter for indoor greenery.

Dust the surface using a soft, dry cloth and refrain from applying abrasive chemicals that strip the naturally aged surface patina. A light coating of microcrystalline wax can be applied to protect against ongoing corrosion.
