This large Victorian Neoclassical centrepiece from 1860 is made of white glazed porcelain accented with gold leaf. The piece shows two cherub figures supporting an orb-shaped vessel by carrying poles across their shoulders, set upon a rectangular stepped base. Visible details include a Greek key motif around the rim, intricate gilded banding along the carrying poles, and an impressed mark to the base, along with a couple of small hairline cracks reflecting its age. The overall item measures 32 cm high, 30 cm wide, and 20 cm deep. Today, this centrepiece works well placed as a dining table center to display floral arrangements or simply as a decorative focal point in a living room or hallway.

Founded in Stoke-on-Trent in 1793, Minton became famous during the nineteenth century for producing fine bone china and glazed ceramics. Neoclassical designs drew heavily from classical Greek and Roman imagery, featuring classical urns, cherubs, and fretwork banding.

These vessels were typically formed from soft-paste or bone china porcelain, moulded in separate sections, and joined before firing. Fine details were decorated with overglaze enamels and real gold leaf gilding, which was fired onto the glaze.

Authentic Minton pieces generally bear impressed or printed factory marks on the underside, such as the Minton globe motif or impressed date ciphers. High craftsmanship in the modeling of figures and precise gilded geometric borders also indicate genuine origin.

Position the piece as a singular focal point atop a dining table, marble-topped sideboard, or console table. Its neutral white glazed finish and gilded detailing allow it to blend with contemporary minimalism or traditional classic spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre brush or lint-free cloth. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners and prolonged exposure to water, as moisture can weaken old restoration or degrade delicate gilt details over time.
