Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This unusual nineteenth-century William IV metamorphic mahogany buffet exhibits a grand Regency style in a warm brown timber finish. The rectangular top has smoothly rounded corners and rests upon sturdy trestle end supports. A central turned stretcher connects the uprights, terminating in rounded feet at floor level, while the woodwork displays clean moulded edges along the top and base. The piece stands 79 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 56 cm deep. In a modern interior, this versatile sideboard serves as a striking functional surface in a dining room, hallway, or living space. The warm tones of the mahogany complement traditional and transitional room schemes alike, offering both a distinctive focal point and practical storage space. The careful craftsmanship of the nineteenth-century period shows in every turned detail and solid wood construction, making it a reliable and handsome addition to the home.

FAQs

A William IV metamorphic buffet is a 19th-century dining room server crafted during the reign of King William IV (18301837), featuring a mechanical or adjustable mechanism that transforms to provide extra surface area or shelving.

These pieces were constructed predominantly from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring hand-carved details, turned timber stretchers, and internal iron or brass mechanisms.

Authentic examples typically exhibit smooth rounded top edges, robust turned trestle supports, hand-cut joinery, original mechanical runners, and an even natural patina across the timber.

Position the piece as a hallway console table, living room focal point, or functional dining room server to introduce warm timber tones and historical proportion into modern schemes.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the timber grain, keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and radiators.
