This nineteenth-century Swedish country occasional table follows a rustic farmhouse style, constructed from pine and painted wood in a terracotta brown colour. The piece takes the form of a tilt-top table with a round timber surface, a heavily turned central pedestal, and a carved tripod base showing layers of faded original paint and visible wear across its surfaces. The curved, scrolling feet provide stable support while adding ornamental detail to the lower structure of the furniture. Practical dimensions of 70 cm high, 72 cm wide and 72 cm deep allow the table to sit comfortably at the end of a sofa or within a hallway or living space as a functional side surface. Its compact footprint and versatile top make it suitable for holding lamps, books or decorative objects in a traditional or contemporary interior.

Tilt-top tables, popular in 18th and 19th-century Scandinavia, were designed for flexibility in space-constrained homes, allowing the tabletop to fold vertically when not in use to free up room floor space.

These pieces were crafted predominantly from native pine or birch, featuring turned central baluster pedestals, hand-carved tripod legs, and mortise-and-tenon joinery secured with a wooden tilt block mechanism.

Authentic examples display hand-planed timber undersides, original iron or wooden catch mechanisms, layered historical paint finishes with natural abrasion, and hand-carved tripod feet.

Position the piece as an occasional side table adjacent to modern seating, or display it with the tabletop secured upright against a wall to showcase the patinated timber and historic paintwork.

Dust gently with a soft dry cloth, avoid water or chemical detergents that compromise historic paint layers, maintain stable indoor humidity levels, and apply clear beeswax sparingly if necessary.
