This pair of William IV pedestal card tables dates from the nineteenth century and is constructed from dark brown rosewood with a polished finish. Each table possesses a rectangular swivel fold-over top, a carved frieze featuring scrolling foliate ornament and a central floral motif, a central lobed pedestal with carved decoration, and a circular platform base on four carved lion paw feet. The tables measure 72 cm high, 91 cm wide, and 45.5 cm deep. Suitable for use in a living room, hallway, or study, these pieces fit well against a wall or in a fireplace alcove. They provide functional surface space and open for card games when required, functioning as practical decorative furniture in a traditional or period interior.

Produced between 1830 and 1837, William IV card tables bridge the Regency and early Victorian eras, typically featuring dark woods such as rosewood or mahogany, sculptural turned pedestal supports, carved friezes, and fold-over tops designed for social card play.

High-end 19th-century card tables were predominantly constructed using rosewood, mahogany, or walnut veneers over solid oak or pine frames, often incorporating green baize playing surfaces inside and concealed brass castors beneath carved paw feet.

Authentic William IV pieces feature heavy, architectural proportions, lotus leaf or acanthus carvings, robust lobed columns, dark figured veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints on internal framing, and period brass hinges.

When closed, these compact tables function effectively as symmetrical console tables in hallways, alcoves, or behind sofas, offering decorative display space while retaining their original folding functionality.

Keep rosewood furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer movement and colour fading, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to preserve the timber lustre.
