Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. This folk art decorative box is a wooden trench art souvenir from the 1940s period, finished in a warm brown colour with hand-incised detailing. The lid features carved figural decoration depicting a uniformed military figure operating a detector, alongside hand-lettered typography reading Pickering, Guisborough, Barn. Castle, St. E. I., and the date 1949-50, complemented by a simple incised line border around the outer edge. Measuring 7.2 cm high, 11 cm wide, and 1.6 cm deep, the piece is structurally sound and functions well with standard surface wear consistent with age. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library setting, the box sits neatly on a bookshelf or desk surface as a small decorative accessory. The compact dimensions allow it to integrate easily into existing shelf displays among books or other small curiosities, providing an interesting historical focal point.

FAQs

Military folk art treen refers to small, hand-carved wooden objects made by or for service personnel to commemorate postings, regiments, or campaigns, often created during or shortly after periods of service.

These items were predominantly constructed from locally sourced hardwoods or softwoods, such as pine, oak, or fruitwood, using hand chisels, knives, and pyrography tools to incise decorative details.

Authentic pieces feature consistent age-related patina, hand-cut joinery or hinges, genuine tool marks, and era-specific typography or imagery that aligns with historical military records.

Small carved boxes serve as textural accents on bookshelves, desk surfaces, or side tables, adding historical character when paired with leather-bound books, brass accents, or framed monochrome prints.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking. Clean gently with a soft dry cloth and apply a neutral beeswax polish sparingly to maintain the natural timber patina.
