This Edwardian Art Nouveau desktop thermometer stands on a desk or table in a gentleman's library or office. The piece comprises a solid silver surround with a repousse border of sinuous scrollwork, a polished engraved brass Fahrenheit temperature dial, a glass mercury tube, and a fabric-covered easel back. The silver metalwork displays a bright reflective finish contrasted against the golden tones of the brass dial and the darker fabric backing, while the scrolling feet at the base support the upright frame. It measures 19 cm high and 9 cm wide. Place the thermometer on a study desk or office tabletop to bring period charm and practical utility to the workspace.

Produced between 1901 and 1910, these desktop instruments reflect the Art Nouveau movement through whipped-line curves, stylized organic forms, and ornamental silver-mounted frames housing temperature scales.

These items typically feature hallmarked sterling silver or silver-plated repousse facings mounted on leather, velvet, or wooden easel backs, surrounding a central glass tube attached to an engraved brass faceplate.

Authentic examples bear official British hallmarks indicating silver purity, assay office, maker mark, and date letter, alongside period typography or hand-engraved gauge markings on the dial.

Place the instrument on an office desk, bookshelf, or mantelpiece alongside leather-bound volumes and brass accents to complement a study or reading area.

Clean the silver frame gently using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth to avoid removing fine embossed detail, ensuring polishing compounds do not contact the glass tube or backing fabric.
