Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This occasional table dates from 1910 and reflects the Arts and Crafts style in warm brown mahogany. It stands outdoors on a mottled stone ground near green foliage against a weathered timber wall, its hexagonal top finished with a stepped edge moulding above a pierced fretwork apron. Turned spindle supports connect the main body to a lower tier shelf, and the table rests on slender upright legs with further decorative cut-outs near the base. Surface marks, scratches and light wear are visible across the timber grain from age and use. The table measures 74 cm high, 53 cm wide and 53 cm deep. Position this piece at the end of a sofa in a living room, hallway or study to hold lamps, books or decorative items. The compact hexagonal footprint makes it suitable for placement in corners or beside seating arrangements where surface space is required without occupying a large room area. The warm timber tones coordinate with traditional or eclectic interior schemes, bringing period character to domestic spaces.

FAQs

Originating in the late nineteenth century, Arts and Crafts furniture emphasises handcrafted construction, simple geometric forms, and solid hardwoods, often incorporating decorative pierced motifs and functional lower tiers.

Edwardian occasional tables were predominantly made from hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, featuring turned spindle supports, fretted aprons, and solid wood surface panels.

Authentic period pieces exhibit traditional joinery techniques like mortise and tenon construction, subtle hand-carved details, natural timber patination, and age-consistent wear on foot bases and edges.

A mahogany occasional table can be placed adjacent to soft seating to hold lighting or books, creating a textural contrast between dark timber grain and contemporary fabrics.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish annually, keeping the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight.
