Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian oak console table dates from the late 19th century and is finished in a warm brown golden hue with a visible wood grain and a lovely patina. The piece has a rectangular top with a moulded edge above two concealed flush frieze drawers fitted with keyholes, supported by four heavy bulbous turned legs with a ring-turned profile. Small marks from age and use are present across the timber surface. The table measures 86 cm high, 127 cm wide and 53 cm deep, and its narrow proportions make it practical for placement as a hall table beside the front door or as a small writing desk in a home study.

FAQs

Victorian console tables typically feature sturdy solid timber construction, detailed turned or carved legs, and integrated frieze drawers. Designed primarily for hallways and reception rooms, these tables emphasise proportion and functional surface area.

Cabinetmakers during the Victorian era primarily utilised native and imported hardwoods such as English oak, mahogany, and walnut. Hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and solid brass hardware were standard construction methods.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display signs of historical craftsmanship, including slight hand-planing irregularities on undersides, dovetailed drawer linings, naturally aged patina, and uniform wear around the feet and drawer pulls.

A Victorian console table functions effectively in contemporary entryways, behind sofas, or in narrow corridors. Combining the warm timber tone with modern artwork, understated ceramic lamps, or minimalist mirrors balances historical character with modern design aesthetics.

Maintain antique oak by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and damp conditions to prevent wood shrinkage or movement.
