This Regency mahogany console and side table dates from around 1820 in the Regency style. The warm brown timber has a bow front and a square edge to the top, accompanied by two deep drawers to the front fitted with original brass oval backplate handles and keyhole escutcheons. The structure stands on four square tapered legs, displaying a lovely deep colour and patination. The unit measures 84 cm high, 108 cm wide, and 48 cm deep. Positioned beside the front door, the console and side table serves as a functional surface for keys, correspondence, and decorative items. Its classic profile complements traditional and formal interiors alike, providing surface area and storage without dominating the hallway or living space. The traditional waxed finish highlights the grain of the mahogany, while the brass hardware accents the drawer fronts.

Regency tables, produced in Britain between approximately 1811 and 1830, are characterised by classical proportions, clean geometric lines, and symmetrical profiles. Design features often include bow-fronted or serpentine curves, tapered square or reeded legs, and brass hardware with neoclassical motifs.

Craftsmen primarily utilised dense, high-grade West Indian mahogany for structural frames and drawer fronts due to its deep colour and stable grain. Accent features frequently incorporated cast brass hardware, keyhole escutcheons, and secondary woods such as pine or oak for drawer linings.

Authentic pieces from circa 1820 exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer construction, original lock mechanisms, and evidence of hand-planed secondary timbers. Natural wear on leg bases, age-related patination, and cast brass backplates with period-appropriate moulding confirm historical authenticity.

A Regency hall table provides structure in entryways or narrow corridors when paired with a contemporary mirror or large artwork placed above the tabletop. The dark wood contrast works well against pale neutral walls, complemented by modern ceramic vessels or structured lamps.

Dust surfaces regularly using a clean, soft microfibre cloth following the wood grain. To protect the original finish, apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year, avoiding silicone-based sprays and direct exposure to radiators or heat sources.
