This 1880 Persian tribal bag face comes from the Owlad Haj Ali tayefeh of the Haft Lang Lors of Bakhtiari tribe, woven in the Chahar Mahal region of West Persia. The rectangular textile displays an indigo-blue ground with a central ivory-cotton lozenge motif alongside red, navy, yellow and green geometric patterns, latch-hook details, and striped borders. Woven using soumak technique, the piece measures 22 cm high and 25 cm wide, with a knotted-pile base at the bottom and a fringed, multicoloured edge showing visible wear and frayed threads along the top. In a modern interior, this item functions as decorative accent placement on a bookshelf.

Woven by nomadic Lor and Bakhtiari tribes in West Persia, these small bags were crafted as functional storage containers for personal items, vanity goods, and salt during seasonal migrations across the Zagros Mountains.

These textiles are typically hand-knotted or flat-woven using hand-spun sheeps wool on wool warps, coloured using natural plant and mineral dyes such as indigo and madder root.

Authentic pieces exhibit variations in yarn thickness, natural dye abrash shade shifts, geometric diamond or latch-hook motifs, and heavy-duty hand-stitched borders originally designed for structural utility.

Small tribal bag faces can be custom mounted inside shadow-box frames as wall art, laid flat on console tables, or displayed upright on book stands as decorative accents.

Keep the textile away from direct sunlight and high humidity, vacuum gently without a rotating brush bar, and consult a professional antique rug restorer for specialized wash procedures.
