Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early Victorian miniature chest of drawers dates from around 1840 and is formed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour, complemented by visible turned wooden knobs, turned bun feet, and a moulded top edge. The piece has four graduated drawer fronts containing dovetailed pine lined drawers, paired with original turned handles and feet, along with an even patination across the surfaces. It measures 31 cm wide, 35.5 cm high, and 18 cm deep. In a modern interior, the item sits comfortably on top of a sideboard or chest, serving as practical storage for jewellery, trinkets, or small keepsakes. It functions well within a study, dressing room, or living space as a decorative antique accessory.

FAQs

An apprentice piece is a scale miniature constructed by trainee cabinetmakers during the nineteenth century to demonstrate technical proficiency in joinery and furniture making.

Victorian miniature furniture was typically crafted from quality hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints and turned timber knobs.

Authentic pieces display evidence of historical craftsmanship, including hand-sawn drawer linings, hand-cut dovetails, period-correct turned knobs, and natural timber shrinkage consistent with age.

These miniature pieces function well as accent objects on sideboards, desks, or mantelpieces, offering practical storage for smaller personal items such as jewellery or stationery.

Maintain mahogany surfaces by dusting with a soft microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax polish sparingly to preserve the timber finish and prevent drying.
