The serpentine top displays diamond parquetry inlay, bordered by a brass surround and accented with crisply cast gilt-bronze or ormolu mounts. Four curved cabriole legs support the frame, detailed with elaborate gilt metal mounts along their upper sections. Measuring 53.5 cm high, 86 cm wide, and 57 cm deep, this low table suits placement in a drawing room or formal living area as a central coffee table. The repolished surface presents a clean finish ready for daily domestic use.

FAQs

A French parquetry coffee table is a low accent table featuring geometric wood veneer inlays across its surface, a decorative technique established in 17th-century France. These tables often incorporate Louis XV design elements, including curved cabriole legs, serpentine outlines, and decorative gilt-bronze mounts.

Traditional French parquetry pieces utilize contrasting hardwood veneers such as walnut, kingwood, rosewood, and tulipwood laid over a solid timber core. Metal embellishments are cast from bronze or brass and finished with gilding, known as ormolu.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut timber veneers fitted in precise geometric patterns, hand-chased bronze mounts secured with original screws, and traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon joints under the frame.

A French parquetry low table provides visual texture when paired with modern upholstered sofas in neutral fabrics. Position it over a textured wool or jute rug to contrast the polished timber finish and metallic accent mounts.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a natural beeswax paste annually to preserve the timber finish. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilt-bronze mounts, cleaning them only with a soft brush to prevent stripping the patination.
