This nineteenth-century Victorian novelty treen gentleman's tobacco pipe takes the form of miniature fireplace bellows, created from dark brown fruitwood with an ebonised wood stem. The piece exhibits carved contours, a metal ferrule band, and distinct signs of age including surface wear and a rich patina developed from years of handling. Measuring 5.1 cm high, 17.8 cm wide, and 5.1 cm deep, the miniature scale makes it a suitable collector's object for display on a bookshelf in a gentleman's library or study. The sculptural pipe rests horizontally, terminating in a slender stem connected by a metallic band to the main bellows-shaped body. The timber shows varied warm brown tones across the shaped surfaces, whilst the stepped bowl rises from the top. Such curious smoker's items integrate into traditional interior displays, offering a conversation piece when set among books or within a cabinet collection.

Treen refers to small, functional or decorative domestic objects crafted entirely from wood. During the nineteenth century, novelty items such as pipes carved into the shapes of everyday tools and objects gained popularity among collectors and smokers.

Treen pipes were predominantly hand-carved from dense hardwoods or fruitwoods such as cherry, apple, or boxwood due to their tight grain and heat resistance. These were often finished with silver or nickel ferrules and ebonised wooden or vulcanite stems.

Authentic pieces exhibit natural patination from handling, subtle hand-carving tool marks, and age-appropriate wear around the bowl aperture. Period construction details, such as antique ferrule fittings and historical timber shrinkage, help distinguish genuine period items.

Small treen curios are suited for display inside glass cabinets, arranged on library shelves alongside antique books, or placed as tactile accents on brass desk trays.

Dust the item gently using a dry, soft microfibre cloth and apply a thin layer of clear microcrystalline wax annually to protect the wood finish. Keep the object away from central heating vents, direct sunlight, and moist environments to prevent warping or cracking.
