This Victorian lamp table dates from 1860 in the English Country House style, constructed from warm brown burr walnut with a visible burr grain veneer. The table comprises a shaped scalloped top with a thumb moulded edge, supported by a spiral turned and carved pedestal column, standing on three carved cabriole tripod legs with scroll feet. Visible details include carved ornamentation on the central pedestal and cabriole legs, together with the natural figured timber tones. Measuring 70.5 cm high, 58.5 cm wide, and 47 cm deep, the table stands at a convenient height for placement at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair in a sitting room to hold a lamp or decorative accessories.

FAQs

Victorian burr walnut lamp tables were crafted during the 19th century, characterised by rich figured walnut veneers, decorative carved pedestals, and functional small-scale proportions for drawing rooms.

These tables were typically constructed using solid walnut or mahogany structural frames topped with highly figured burr walnut veneers, often featuring hand-carved spiral turnings and tripod legs.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut joinery underneath, age-appropriate wear on the tripod base, natural patination, and the distinct, non-repeating figure of genuine burr timber veneers.

Position the table beside an armchair or sofa as an accent piece, topped with a modern lamp or decorative object to balance historic woodwork with contemporary interior elements.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically, keeping the timber clear of direct sunlight and radiator heat to prevent veneer lifting.
