These two lidded vases originate from the 1860 French Chinoiserie period, produced by Edme Samson from porcelain with enamel finishes and gold leaf detailing. Each vessel takes a wrythen baluster form with a fluted body, standing upon a pedestal base supported by four small bracket feet, and finished with a pointed urn-shaped finial on top of the domed lid. The white glazed surface displays intricate hand-painted floral enamelling in shades of pink, purple, and green, interspersed with geometric orange bands and gilded highlights. The main urn body measures 27 cm in height, the square base measures 7 cm, and the lid measures 5.5 cm in diameter. In a contemporary home, this pair suits display on a mantelpiece in a formal living room or drawing room setting. The polished porcelain and gold gilding provide an ornamental focal point that reflects traditional nineteenth-century craftsmanship, integrating into classical interiors as decorative mantel ornaments or tabletop showpieces.

Samson of Paris was a French porcelain factory established in the nineteenth century that specialised in reproducing historic ceramics, including Chinese Export porcelain in the Famille Rose palette.

These items were typically crafted from hard-paste porcelain, decorated with hand-applied overglaze enamel pigments and finished with gold leaf accents.

Authentic pieces generally display distinctive maker marks on the base, precise fluted moulding, detailed overglaze enamelling, and dense hard-paste porcelain construction characteristic of nineteenth-century French manufacture.

Positioning a matched pair symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, fireplace mantelpiece, or entryway console table creates structure and introduces classic pattern to modern schemes.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or feather duster, avoiding water immersion, abrasive chemical solvents, or friction over gilded areas to prevent surface loss.
