A perpetual wall calendar is a manual date-keeping device designed to be used indefinitely by adjusting internal printed rolls or cards for the day, date, and month. Popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these instruments were commonly displayed in commercial offices, banks, and academic institutions.

Edwardian perpetual calendars were predominantly constructed using solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut for the outer frame, featuring glazed apertures. The interior mechanism typically utilised printed linen or paper rolls mounted on internal wooden spools.

Authentic Edwardian pieces feature solid timber construction with period joinery, authentic period typography printed on fabric or paper rollers, and natural age-related oxidisation on the wood finish. Many original examples retain side turning knobs or rear access panels to adjust the internal spools.

An antique wooden calendar serves as a functional wall accent when integrated into a gallery wall or positioned above a study desk. It pairs effectively with traditional dark wood furniture, leather seating, and brass desktop accessories.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish periodically to maintain the wood surface. Keep the object away from direct sunlight and humid environments to protect the internal printed rollers from fading and moisture damage.
