Description

A gorgeous first period Worcester porcelain blue and white bowl decorated in the Mansfield pattern, dating from c1770 - 1780. The bowl has a cursive W mark to the base and at 21cm in diameter is large enough to use as a fruit bowl if desired.

It never ceases to amaze me how a relatively fragile piece of porcelain can survive over 250 years in tact! This beautiful Worcester bowl has stood the test of time and is as lovely today as the day it was made. It’s a nice size - big enough to be useful if desired, or not so big that it will take up too much room in a display cabinet.

Condition: There is one very small chip to the rim (see the last photo), otherwise excellent condition.

An 18th-century Georgian decorative bowl originates from the first period of Worcester porcelain, rendered in soft-paste ceramic with a white glaze. The piece is finished with hand-painted cobalt blue underglaze floral decoration in the Mansfield pattern, showing complex floral motifs around the exterior body and a secondary floral rim border running along the interior edge. A circular foot rim supports the circular bowl, while one very small chip appears on the rim. The ceramic piece measures 8.5 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 21 cm deep. First Period Worcester porcelain, often referred to as the Dr Wall period, covers production from the founding of the Worcester factory in 1751 until 1783.
