Description

An unusual 19th century lapis lazuli obelisk, gilt engraved 'Interlacken 1876'; most likely a Grand Tour momento brought back from Switzerland.

There are some very light signs of wear commensurate with but generally the whole remains in a very good condition and displays beautifully.

This Victorian decorative object is a four-sided lapis lazuli obelisk with a tapered column, a pointed pyramidion, and a polished lapidary finish. The stone is a deep blue colour with natural mineral inclusions, and the front face bears an engraved inscription in gold lettering that reads Interlacken 1876. The surface shows very light signs of wear consistent with age, whilst the overall form remains in very good condition. Measuring 11 cm high, 3.75 cm wide, and 4 cm deep, this nineteenth-century piece has a compact scale.
