Stunning Dr Wall / First Period Worcester Sèvres Style Fluted Porcelain Tea Canister C.1780

A really lovely Worcester porcelain tea canister of ovoid form with fluted walls. Superbly decorated under the influence of the French Sèvres style starting with an underglaze blue border around the top of the body, edged with gilt arabesque scrolls, and over gilded with an extraordinarily ornate and delicate design; arabesque framed reserves alternating with daisy flowers and arrows, and the spaces inbetween, very finely filled with alternating diaper designs, one with dots and crosslets and the other, slightly larger with a "flower of life" design overlaid again with dots and crosslets.

The body is split into four sections by vertical gilt foliate scrolls and each is painted with a hanging garland of flowers in pink and purple enamels, and then with a further tied floral pendant of red flowers. Around the base, a shaped green caillouté border, reminiscent of shagreen, is framed above with gilts scrolls and fans. Finished with a gilt band around the foot and a gilt dentil rim. Wigornia W mark to the base, c.1780.

It measures 12.7cm (5") high and 8cm (3 1/8") wide.

In good condition. It is missing its original cover as is often the case. It has a small chip inside the rim, which is minimally detracting aesthetically, the last three photographs show the area closely. No other damage, repair of restoration and minimal handling wear to enamels and gilding.
