Unlike the "married" , mismatched or mid 20th century garden sets commonly assembled on the trade market, this is a true, textbook uniform suite that left the Shropshire foundry together, remaining intact for nearly a century and a half.
The suite comprises four matching "Spoon-Back Medallion" chairs and the highly coveted tri-form "Classical Maiden Mask" bistro table. The chairs feature an intricately pierced, oval spoon-back design centered with a classical medallion frame, gracefully bordered by swags, scrolls, and delicate botanical foliage. The matching table is a masterclass in Victorian industrial casting, featuring three elegant, scrolling cabriole legs topped with prominent, beautifully crisp classical female maiden masks. The table is further enhanced by an openwork under-tier shelf and a central parasol portal.The uniform design cohesion between the scrolling legs of the chairs and the table base creates a striking, balanced symmetry that cannot be replicated by mixed period pieces.
Authenticity & Vetted Foundry Markings: This suite boasts impeccable, investment-grade provenance with fully intact period foundry markings that definitively separate it from 20th-century reproductions: The Table: Retains the authentic, cast Victorian Diamond Design Registration Lozenge nested within Coalbrookdale’s signature raised circular frame surrounding the central parasol ring (denoting its registered design status between 1842 and 1883) and retains its two original, circular impressed "COALBROOKDALE SHROPSHIRE" foundry stamps (the size of a 2p coin) cast on the reverse frame lips.
While currently finished in a striking contemporary purple g, historical inspection reveals extensive, authentic traces of the original 19th-century botanical estate green paint safely preserved directly beneath the upper layers—a highly prized discovery for purist collectors and restorers
