Sandbanks Antiques has dated this Iznik Ceramic Umbrella Stand to the 19th Century.
Paris, France, Circa 1875–1885
Executed at the height of the European Aesthetic and Islamic Revival movements, this large-scale floor vessel demonstrates Deck’s pioneering mastery of high-fire ceramic chemistry and historical Ottoman design adaptation.

Dimensions:
Height: 37 cm (approx. 14.5 in)
Width / Diameter: 18.5 cm (approx. 7.3 in)
Color & Glaze Palette:
The surface is a masterclass in saturated chromatic brilliance, featuring a rich, glossy manganese purple core ground contrasted against luminous, sunlit ochre and soft-yellow ogival cartouches. The design is densely populated with vibrant cobalt blue and crisp white floral blossoms on intricate green scrolling stems. Interwoven geometric borders, palmettes, and secondary friezes pop with vivid turquoise and electric blue enamel highlights, creating a dazzling, light-catching jewel-like finish characteristic of Deck's finest studio output.

Condition:
Excellent original condition. The piece exhibits no chips, cracks, structural hairlines, or restoration. The glaze remains remarkably crisp, glossy, and well-preserved throughout both the exterior registers and the interior glazed well. The unglazed recessed base bears the crisp, impressed uppercase maker's mark T I DECK.

Rarity & Form:
Large-scale utilitarian floor forms—such as umbrella and stick stands—are distinctly scarce within Deck's surviving oeuvre. Unlike standard cabinet plates or table vases, their intended floor placement and functional utility exposed them to heavy wear, making pristine, surviving examples exceedingly rare on the international market.
Provenance:
Formerly in a Private Manhattan, New York Collection.
Thence acquired by the G.S. May Esquire Private Collection, London.
