Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, Victorian cabinetmakers frequently used burr walnut veneers decorated with floral marquetry inlays to create decorative centre and occasional tables. These pieces typically feature an oval or circular top supported by turned central columns and carved cabriole legs.

These tables were constructed using a solid timber frame faced with figured burr walnut veneers and inlaid with contrasting hardwoods or boxwood marquetry. The central base often features turned dual or quadruple columns terminating in hand-carved legs with brass or wooden casters.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut marquetry inlay, genuine grain variation in the burr veneer, and hand-carved construction details beneath the base. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-sawn timber marks, original wooden dowels, or Victorian metal latch mechanisms.

Position the table in a reading nook, bay window, or alongside modern upholstered seating to provide textural contrast. The warm wood tones integrate well with neutral colour palettes, linen upholstery, and contemporary decorative ceramics.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish occasionally along the grain. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or cracking.
