This vintage oak side table dates from the 1920 period and follows a traditional country style. The piece is constructed from oak with a warm brown finish and displays an ovolo-moulded edge, chamfered corners on the legs, and lower support stretchers. Physical inspection reveals a rectangular top with bevelled edges, upright square legs with chamfered faces, and a two-tier stretcher base running between the lower sections of the legs, all exhibiting minor age-related wear consistent with vintage condition. The physical dimensions measure 70 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 37 cm deep. Practical placement includes positioning this occasional table at the end of a sofa in a living room, hallway, or study within an English country house interior to hold lamps, books, or decorative objects. The restrained geometric form and clear structural design allow the table to sit comfortably alongside existing seating furniture while providing a sturdy surface for everyday household use.

FAQs

Oak side tables from this period typically feature functional design, solid wood construction, straight lines, chamfered edge details, and lower support stretchers inspired by traditional English craftsmanship.

Traditional oak side tables utilize solid oak timber joined with mortise and tenon joints, supported by four straight legs and reinforced with lower H-stretchers or perimeter stretchers.

Authentic vintage pieces feature natural grain depth, subtle hand-finished chamfering, age-appropriate patination, and minor wear marks particularly along the stretchers and lower legs.

Position the table beside a modern sofa or armchair to balance soft textile upholstery with structured wood grain, completing the arrangement with a reading lamp or vase.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish occasionally along the direction of the grain to preserve the timber and protect against moisture.
