Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian burr walnut occasional table is a compact decorative furniture item produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901). Designed for versatile placement around living spaces, these tables feature figure-grained walnut veneers cut from tree burls and are typically supported by a central carved pedestal with a tripod base.

These tables were primarily crafted using solid walnut or mahogany substructures overlaid with thin burr walnut veneers. Master cabinetmakers utilised hand-cut dovetail joints, turned columns such as barley twists, and hand-carved cabriole legs secured with wooden dowels and traditional animal-hide glues.

Authentic Victorian examples show evidence of hand-carving irregularities, slight shrinkage in the veneer consistent with age, and natural patination on the underside. Original joinery, period screws with off-centre slots, and hand-turned column bases further indicate 19th-century construction.

In contemporary settings, a small wooden tripod table functions well as a side table alongside a minimalist sofa or reading armchair. The natural warmth of the wood grain provides textural contrast against crisp plastered walls, modern upholstery, and clean architectural lines.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a soft dry microfibre cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing in the direction of the grain, while keeping the table away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent veneer cracking and fading.
