Beautiful Early 19th Century Elm Refectory Table Seating 8 C. 1820

Description

A large and beautiful solid elm refectory table with planked cleated top over solid elm blocked feet with original pegged stretcher. The table can be dismantled easily – two very heavy solid block and shaped feet, the three boarded cleated top and a stretcher that unites the legs, gives strength and is held with original triangular pegs which lock the stretcher in.

Wonderful colour and very tactile. Natural splits, cracks and losses consistent with 200 + years of use and love and, one must assume, a lot of family parties, good times and good service.

These tables are hard to find with original finish and such great character and colour.

Will provide great service and look beautiful in any room and seats eight guests in comfort.

Made by hand in c. 1820 by a skilled provincial craftsman.

Shown here with a set of early 19th century rush seated spindle back chairs and others available separately.

A good height, so any dining chair with a seat height of 18 inches, plus or minus 1 inch, will work.
