Marlborough Antiques & Interiors has dated this Carved Oak Hall Table to the 19th Century.
The top is particularly striking, centred with a carved roundel depicting a stylised bird or griffin motif, bordered by geometric chip carving in the manner of traditional Welsh and Jacobean vernacular furniture. The table incorporates two concealed side drawers, discreetly integrated beneath the top and fitted with brass ring pulls, making it both decorative and practical. The rich oak timber displays excellent grain and colour throughout, with a warm aged patina that enhances the hand-carved details. An unusual and characterful piece, ideal for use as a console table, serving table, hall table or large sofa table. It would work beautifully in both traditional country interiors and more eclectic contemporary spaces.

Condition report: Structurally solid and sturdy overall. Age-related wear, historic surface marks, old shrinkage cracks and minor losses commensurate with age all of which add to the authentic character and rustic appeal of the piece.. The drawers run well. A wonderfully atmospheric decorative piece with excellent presence.
