This Victorian pocket tool dates to circa 1880 and takes the form of a hinged folding multi-tool set within a curved metal arch frame. The piece is constructed from wrought iron and steel with a dark grey colour and a rustic, aged finish showing visible surface wear and oxidation. The assembly comprises multiple hinged implements joined along a bottom base bar, including a hooked pick, a corkscrew with a spiral worm, a pointed spike, a threaded gimlet, a tapered awl, a threaded bolt tool lacking its tip, and a flat-ended spade tool. The entire folding arrangement measures 8 cm high and 7.5 cm wide. In a modern interior, this curious Victorian artefact provides an interesting display object for a gentleman's library or office desk. It sits neatly on a study table, bookshelf, or cabinet surface where its industrial form and mechanical folding design remain visible to visitors. Collectors of pocket tools and antique hardware find it well-suited for inclusion in a cabinet of curiosities alongside other small nineteenth-century ironwork and functional instruments.

A Victorian folding multi-tool is a compact, portable utensil set engineered during the nineteenth century, incorporating multiple implements such as corkscrews, spikes, and gimlets into a single folding metal mechanism.

These utility items were primarily forged from wrought iron or hardened steel, featuring hand-riveted joints and hand-cut threads to secure the various pivoting components.

Authentic late Victorian examples exhibit hand-forged or early machine-stamped features, natural surface patination, dark oxidisation, and functional implements tailored to period needs such as opening wine bottles or repairing leather tack.

These compact iron objects can be displayed within a curated collectors shadow box, arranged on a tray inside a study, or positioned on an office desk as a historical accent piece.

Keep the metal dry to prevent active corrosion, gently clean with a soft brush, and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax or mineral oil to preserve the original patina and movement of the joints.
