This Georgian matching set of three fire irons comprises a poker, a shovel, and a pair of tongs, all rendered in a steel grey colour with an original patinated finish. Each item exhibits a slender barley twist stem terminating in a turned spherical finial at the top, while the shovel features a fretted pierced blade adorned with a decorative floral cutout pattern and shaped collar moulding. The tongs incorporate a circular ring joint mechanism with a pointed drop finial beneath the handle loop. The group measures 71 cm high, with the shovel blade measuring 13 cm wide and the tongs providing a maximum width of 9 cm. This functional fireside grouping suits placement beside an open hearth in a period or traditional living room setting, resting against a fireplace surround as an authentic accessory for managing coal or wood fires.

Georgian fire irons were produced during the 18th and early 19th centuries, characterised by symmetrical proportions, turned urn finials, barley twist shafts, and hand-pierced detailing on shovel blades.

Hearth tools from this era were primarily forged from steel or iron, frequently featuring brass urn or ball finials, polished surfaces, and hand-cut decorative perforations.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-forged construction marks, subtle hand-punched or pierced decoration, age-appropriate patination or surface oxidisation, and heavy structural weight.

Position the fire irons standing alongside a brick or stone fireplace hearth, pairing industrial metalwork with timber or marble surrounds for visual contrast.

Maintain steel surfaces by applying microcrystalline wax to prevent oxidisation, buffing gently with a dry lint-free cloth and avoiding abrasive chemical cleaners.
