19th century staffordshire flatback pottery figures of the duke and duchess of cambridge - CATEGORY: ANTIQUE CERAMICS - DATED VICTORIAN

19th Century Staffordshire Flatback Pottery Figures Of The Duke And Duchess Of Cambridge

£200    $267    €234
A very good pair of Nineteenth Century figures of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Some wear to the gilding in places and to the Duke’s hair, but otherwise in very good condition with no cracks, crazing or chips. Standing to a height of 36 cms. There is raised gilt titling to the bases.

The Duke, as depicted on horseback, was George, 2nd Duke of Cambridge, the grandson of George III, with his wife Louisa Fairbrother. Louisa was an actress and never officially granted the title of Duchess by Queen Victoria.

The Duke is shown in military uniform and is holding a plumed, cocked hat. The Duchess is wearing a riding habit with a particularly pretty skirt and a hat.
