Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tunbridge ware is a form of decorative woodwork originating in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent, during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Craftsmen created detailed geometric or pictorial patterns by gluing together long strips of differently coloured natural woods, which were then sliced crosswise into thin mosaic veneers.

These items were predominantly constructed using native English woods such as holly, plum, yew, sycamore, and laburnum alongside imported dark woods like rosewood and mahogany. Natural wood tones were selected deliberately to avoid the need for artificial stains or dyes.

Authentic pieces feature end-grain mosaic tesserae glued together to form geometric bands, floral patterns, or topographical views. Genuine items show subtle variations in natural wood colour and grain under a magnifying lens, rather than printed or painted transfers.

Small needlework tools and boxes are frequently displayed in glass shadow boxes, placed on accent trays atop bookshelves, or arranged inside glazed cabinet displays alongside other wooden curiosities.

Inlaid wooden items should be kept away from direct sunlight, central heating sources, and high humidity to prevent glue deterioration and veneer warping. Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a microcrystalline wax sparingly to protect the finish.
