Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large Sheraton style serving table dates from 1880 and takes the form of a solid mahogany piece with a rectangular top and a single frieze drawer. The warm brown timber displays a polished finish, while the frieze exhibits intricate carved drapery swags and a central urn relief. Four tapered fluted legs support the structure, terminating in spade feet. The solid oak drawer construction bears the maker label of Druce and Company, a British furniture manufacturer and antique dealer. Measuring 80 cm high, 163 cm wide, and 69.25 cm deep, the table provides ample surface area for display and storage. It serves well in a formal dining room as a serving table or along a spacious entrance hall as a statement console. The neoclassical design suits period interiors and traditional reception rooms alike.

FAQs

Sheraton style furniture, originating in the late 18th century, is characterised by Neoclassical restraint, refined proportions, straight lines, fluted tapered legs, and subtle carved motifs such as drapery swags and urns.

Craftsmen predominantly used solid mahogany and satinwood, employing traditional joinery such as hand-cut mortise-and-tenon joints to ensure long-term structural stability.

Look for period-appropriate construction details, including hand-planed timber surfaces, secondary woods like pine or oak for interior drawer linings, hand-carved frieze ornamentation, and slender tapered legs.

A large mahogany server functions well as a focal statement in a dining room, hallway, or living space, paired above with an oversized framed mirror or contemporary artwork to balance classic proportions with modern decor.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cotton cloth, avoid placing the timber in direct sunlight or near artificial heat sources to prevent warping, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically to preserve the finish.
