Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This French drapers table dates from 1880 in the French Country style, combining oak and pine with a two-tone finish of natural wood on the top and dark grey on the base. The piece has two shallow drawers fitted with small round brass knob handles, supported by heavily turned legs above a lower pot board shelf with block feet. Signs of age include surface wear and distressed paintwork showing the dark grey colour over the pine base. Measuring 86 cm high, 153 cm wide, and 65 cm deep, it provides a practical serving or display surface. In a contemporary home, this rustic farmhouse table sits comfortably in a kitchen, hallway, or living space as a console or side table. The lower shelf offers open storage for baskets, books, or decorative items, while the drawers hold smaller household accessories. The weathered timber top and painted finish suit traditional interiors, country houses, and eclectic schemes.

FAQs

A French drapers table was traditionally used in 19th-century textile shops and haberdasheries as a wide, long surface for measuring and cutting rolls of cloth. These utilitarian tables often feature under-tier shelves for fabric storage and shallow drawers for holding tailoring tools.

These tables are typically constructed from solid softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, oak, or elm, often featuring hand-mortised and tenoned joints. The base construction frequently includes turned or square legs, lower slatted or solid pot boards, and brass or iron drawer pulls.

Authentic pieces show signs of historical commercial use, including hand-planed top boards, wear along the front edges from measuring cloth, and original joinery techniques like hand-cut dovetails. Original painted finishes often exhibit natural distressing, shrinkage gaps between timber boards, and genuine oxidisation on hardware.

A draper table serves as a functional console in a large hallway, a kitchen island, or a sideboard in a dining space. The lower tier provides display space for ceramic vessels, baskets, or books, balancing traditional utilitarian design with contemporary living.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners that may damage original paint layers. Apply a clear beeswax paste to natural wood tops periodically to nourish the timber and protect against moisture while preserving the aged patina.
