This pair of Woods Ivory Ware lidded vegetable tureen serving dishes originates from the 1910 period in an Art Deco style, manufactured from cream earthenware with a glossy glaze. Each tureen has a domed lid topped with an upright finial and features flared side handles, decorated along the rim with a ribbon-effect geometric pattern highlighted in bright orange and grey against the ivory background. One tureen has a tiny minor chip on the underside rim. The dimensions are 13 cm high, 27 cm wide, and 25 cm deep. These matching serving dishes suit everyday dining or special occasions when used on a dining table, buffet, or sideboard top for presenting vegetables or side dishes. They bring a distinct early twentieth-century decorative accent to contemporary kitchen or dining spaces.

FAQs

Art Deco tableware emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by bold geometric motifs, streamlined forms, and vibrant colour accents. British potteries produced large earthenware dinner services using transfer printing and hand-painted enamels to make modern design accessible to home dining rooms.

Woods Ivory Ware was manufactured using refined earthenware clay, fired to achieve a soft ivory background tone. The pieces were finished with clear lead glazes and decorated with ceramic transfer prints, enamels, or gilt trim along the handles and rims.

Authentic pieces feature printed pottery backstamps on the underside, typically stating Woods Ivory Ware alongside the makers mark for Wood & Sons of England. Additional impressed numbers or pattern reference codes are commonly found stamped into the raw base.

A vintage ceramic tureen can be displayed as a decorative accent on a dining room sideboard, dresser shelf, or kitchen island. It can also function as a central table decoration or be used to store dry items when not serving food.

Vintage ceramics with gilt or enamel detailing should be hand washed in warm water using a mild liquid detergent. Dishwashers and abrasive scouring pads must be avoided to prevent fading, surface scratching, or degradation of the glaze.
