Description

Probably a horse decoration as opposed to one made for a camel.

Finely knotted and complete with woollen tufts and tassels for keeping away flies, the band also retains its long, braided tie cords. Made by Qashqa'i nomads in the province of Fars, south-west Persia circa 1900 - 1920, the band is in excellent, complete condition and would make a most attractive wall-hanging.

Size: 1.02m x 7cm (3' 4" x 3") excluding tassels.

This tribal textile from the Qashqa'i nomads of the Fars province in south-west Persia dates to circa 1900. Originating from the nomadic textile tradition, the object functions as a horse trapping designed with wool and natural dyes. The piece comprises a finely knotted, flatweave band decorated with geometric motifs in red, white, black, and blue. Small woollen tufts project along the upper and lower edges of the band.
