Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cassolette is a small decorative vessel, historically designed with a perforated or removable lid to hold perfumes, incense, or aromatic pastilles. Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries in France, these items frequently feature gilt-bronze mounts, porcelain, or champleve enamel bodies.

French cassolettes are typically constructed using cast gilt bronze (ormolu) for the decorative mounts, feet, and handles, combined with hand-painted porcelain or enamel bodies. The metal components were traditionally chased and gilded using fire-gilding techniques.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-chiselled metalwork, natural wear or oxidisation to the gilt surfaces, and precise hand-painted vignettes. Inspecting the underside of the base usually reveals hand-cut threading and square assembly nuts consistent with historical manufacturing methods.

A pair of cassolettes can be displayed symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble console table, or sideboard to introduce classical structure and vivid colour. Positioned alongside minimalist artwork or modern mirrors, they provide a contrasting focal point that balances traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design.

Dust surfaces using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush, avoiding liquid polishes or abrasive chemical cleaners that can remove original gilding or damage enamel glazes. Keep the items in a stable environment away from excessive humidity and direct sunlight.
