This pair of Victorian pitchers originates from the late Victorian era and is created in the Japanese Imari style using hard-paste porcelain, enamel, and gold leaf. The set displays a white background decorated with hand-painted floral motifs featuring rust red and cobalt blue, complemented by gold detailing and dark blue handles. Each piece includes a high swept spout and a bulbous body supported on a small circular foot. One ewer exhibits a slight repair to the inside of the neck. These ewers stand 25 cm high and suit display upon a sideboard top within an English country house interior. They bring traditional ornamental character to a living area, dining room, or hallway surface, serving purely decorative purposes or functioning as standalone statement pieces on wooden furniture.

Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region in Japan and is named after the port from which it was exported to Europe. It is defined by a distinct colour palette combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron-red pigments and bright gold leaf embellishments.

These pieces are formed from refined kaolin clay fired at extremely high temperatures to create translucent hard-paste porcelain. Decorative elements are applied using underglaze cobalt painting, followed by secondary firings for coloured enamel glazes and delicate metallic gilding.

Authentic pieces display hand-painted enamel brushwork with natural variation, deep rich blue underglaze tones, and subtle wear on exposed gilded surfaces. Key indicators include unglazed foot rims, precise porcelain weight, and traditional firing marks on the base.

Arranging the pair symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, mantlepiece, or hallway console creates structured visual balance. The contrast of rich cobalt blue and rust red tones complements dark timber furniture, metallic brass accents, or crisp neutral backgrounds.

Clean gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth or a lightly dampened microfibre cloth with warm water. Avoid chemical detergents, abrasive scouring pads, or submersion in water, as these processes can degrade delicate overglaze enamels and metallic gold accents over time.
