Description

A rare and delightful First Year of Issue Early 20th Century Vintage Royal Doulton English Porcelain Figurine, "All a' Bloomin'" ~ HN 1466, decorated in an attractive purple, green and red colourway, designed by leading Doulton artist Leslie Harradine, and issued from 1931 - 1938. The underside fully marked in green with the printed Royal Doulton backstamp of the period together with the date code 4, indicating that this figurine was potted in 1931, the first year of production, "All a' bloomin', Rd. No. 752874, { for 1930 }, in red script, All-a-bloomin', HN 1466, Potted by Doulton & Co, indistinct impressed Model Number and Date Code, and in green, Painter's Monogram, RB, for Reg Brown, recorded as working at Doulton Circa 1928 to 1962.

FAQs

Royal Doulton began producing hand-painted bone china figurines in Burslem, Staffordshire, in the early twentieth century. These figures often depicted historical characters, regional occupations, and romanticised figures from literature or daily English life.

These items were produced by slip-casting bone china into plaster moulds, assembling individual components by hand, and applying underglaze or overglaze enamels. Each piece underwent multiple firings in a kiln to fuse the vitrified body and glossy glaze finishes.

Authentic figures feature the official Royal Doulton printed backstamp on the base, which typically includes the lion and crown crest. Most pieces issued after 1913 also display a specific model number prefixed with HN, named after head designer Harry Tittensor.
