Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bentwood umbrella stands gained popularity in the mid-to-late 19th century, pioneer-developed by manufacturers such as Gebruder Thonet using steam-bending techniques. These pieces provided functional hallway storage for walking sticks and umbrellas in Victorian and Edwardian homes.

Traditionally, these stands are crafted from steam-bent beechwood, selected for its flexibility and strength when steamed. They typically feature a fitted metal drip tray at the base to retain moisture from wet umbrellas.

Authentic Thonet items frequently bear paper maker labels, impressed factory stamps, or impressed branding on the underside or inner frame. Look for smooth steam-bent timber joints secured with period screws rather than modern fixings.

Position the stand near an entryway console table or beside a front door to introduce organic curves and historical texture into modern hallways. It can be utilised practically for walking sticks or displayed as a standalone architectural design object.

Dust the wooden frame regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to maintain the finish. Ensure the metal drip tray is kept clean and free of water to protect the timber base from moisture.
