This scratch built scale model of a Royal Navy battleship from the 1920 WWI era measures 20 cm high, 44 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. Constructed from wood and metal with a painted finish, it displays a grey and dark green dazzle camouflage pattern, prominent gun turrets, a multi-layered superstructure, a seaplane, and the painted number 42 on the bow, all mounted upon a rectangular timber plinth with block feet. Suitable for display in a gentleman's library or on a bookshelf, this decorative piece brings historic nautical character to a study or living space. The aged surface exhibits crackle effects on the paintwork along with visible surface wear and small wire fittings throughout the deck and masts.

Scale ship models from the First World War era were constructed for strategic planning, recognition training, or as commemorative souvenirs by sailors and hobbyists. Many feature authentic dazzle camouflage schemes designed to confuse enemy rangefinders regarding a vessels speed and heading.

Period model ships were typically carved from solid timber or constructed using plank-on-frame methods. Small fittings were crafted from soft metals, wire, or bone, and the structures were hand-painted with oil-based paints.

Authentic period models display natural paint craquelure, historic joinery techniques, original timber bases, and age-appropriate oxidisation on metal fittings, rather than modern synthetic finishes or machine-moulded components.

A model warship serves as a focal point when placed on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or executive desk within a library or study setting, pairing well with leather-bound books and brass instruments.

Dust the model carefully using a dry, soft-bristled brush or low-pressure air, avoiding liquid cleaners that could damage fragile paint or loose components. Keep the item in a stable environment away from direct heat and sunlight.
