Victorian Walnut Veneered Games Table

19th century
Description

A fine Victorian walnut games table dating from the mid-19th century. Constructed in solid walnut and walnut veneers, the rectangular top with rounded corners is decorated with a more recently added hand-painted games-board motif incorporating the word "WHITES" and various symbolic devices.

The top rotates to reveal a storage compartment for games before unfolding to reveal a generous red baize playing surface, retaining its original gaming function. Raised on an elegant carved pedestal support issuing from a shaped platform base with scroll-carved feet and original castors.

A decorative and functional Victorian games table with excellent colour and patina.
