An antique brass bird cage, circa 1900, with a domed wire frame, circular base and turned wooden finial to the top. The cage is constructed with fine vertical brass rods set between circular bands, creating a light architectural form with a small front door and internal perch. The metal has an aged brass surface with areas of oxidation, wear and patina, while the wooden top has a darker polished finish.
Originally made for keeping birds, the piece now works particularly well as a decorative object, display piece or prop within an interior. Its compact cylindrical form could be styled on a side table, cabinet, mantelpiece or shop display, either left empty or used to hold dried flowers, small curiosities or seasonal decoration. The combination of brass wirework, timber detail and natural patina gives the cage a gentle antique character, suited to country house interiors, garden rooms, conservatories or more layered schemes mixing 19th-century and 20th-cen
