M Lees and Sons has dated these French Ormolu Marble Vases to the 1900s.
. Having well-cast ormolu ram’s-head mounts to the sides united by ormolu floral festooned swags , having turned necks and collars with domed tops surmounted by cast ormolu bronze berry or pineapple finials.

Prized ‘campan vert’ or ‘cippollino verde mandalato’ marble was found and quarried in the Haute Pyrenees , France. Sourced in the Campan Valley, it was favoured by the ancient Romans and latterly used extensively in the interiors of The Palace of Versailles.

In excellent original condition, the brightly gilded bronze mounts forming a striking contrast to the unusually striated coloured marble bodies .
Decorative pair of marble vases or cassolettes of practical scale and proportions for use perhaps on a mantelpiece or console table .
One minor historic repair to base of one vase , though stable and uncompromised .
