FAQs

During the early 20th-century Republic era, Chinese furniture makers integrated traditional joinery techniques and regional motifs with Western design influences, such as cabriole legs and contoured tops, catering to both domestic and export markets.

These tables were typically constructed from dense local hardwoods or stained timber species, utilizing floating panel construction and interlocking mortise-and-tenon joinery without relying on metal nails or screws.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise hand-cut blind joinery, carved openwork stretchers, hand-planed timber surfaces on concealed undersides, and natural surface wear around the base and feet.

Position the table alongside upholstered seating or within an alcove as a functional accent piece, pairing the dark wood tones against neutral plaster walls or contemporary glass and ceramic accessories.

Maintain the finish by dusting routinely with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a thin coat of natural beeswax once annually, keeping the item away from direct radiators and moist surroundings.
