Description

A rare lovespoon, with a long bowl and narrow handle which is finely carved with a vine scroll. In desirable yew-wood, this love token is a wonderful lustrous colour and has a beautiful surface patination.

This distinctive style became, by the later nineteenth century, a craft object that was distributed throughout Europe, including the British Isles - but this example is truly exceptional and a clear forerunner of the later types.
