Grand Tour models were miniature sculptures of famous classical ruins, created in Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries as souvenirs for wealthy travellers undertaking the Grand Tour of Europe.

These decorative objects were typically carved from local Italian stones such as alabaster, white marble, giallo antico, and various other coloured marbles to simulate the appearance of ancient ruins.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit hand-carved detailing, natural ageing of the stone, minor historic chips or repairs, and characteristic patination consistent with nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

Placed upon a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or side table, these sculptures add a layer of historic gravitas and academic sophistication to both traditional and modern minimal spaces.

Clean gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove dust. Avoid using water, liquid cleaners, or abrasive polishes, as alabaster is particularly soft and water-soluble.
