A large three fold room divider screen. Beautifully embroidered in still vibrant coloured thread, depicting a Persian style hunting scene with horseman, deer, rabbits… and a fearsome dragon for good measure.
A similar design, described as a “Persian Fantasy” and featuring a mixture of Middle Eastern and Asian motifs, appears in the March 1934 issue of The Needlewoman magazine, and also within the collection of the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace in Surrey, England.
Well worn, with a couple of minor barely noticeable tears and slight staining to the base of one panel, but a lovely decorative English country house piece.
Early 1930s.
